Swungover on the 1937 Harvest Moon Ball

We’ve posted for year’s about the blog Swungover as a treasure trove of lindy hop history. Well Swungover creator Bobby White has outdone himself with a couple of posts about the 1937 Harvest Moon Ball competition. Check out the “snack size” article, and then head over to the “geek out” version if you are hungry for more!

We particularly love the incredible work he has done to identify all the dancers in the grainy old footage, and to highlight their particular steps and skills.

You really feel transported to that time period and what it must have felt like to be in Madison Square Garden to see these titans of dance perform and go head to head. I learned so much from the article, and I know you will too.

By the way, Bobby has also launched a new podcast, along with Chisomo Selemani called “Integrated Rhythm” that is worth checking out. Together they and special guests discuss “race and the Black Experience in the world of Jazz Dance and other Afro-centric social dancing.”

We’re so impressed with all the work that Bobby White has been doing to support lindy hop. If you agree, you can support Bobby by contributing to his Paypal here.
