New Blog Series: Classic Air Steps by Bobby White

We’re big fans of Bobby White’s extremely detailed and meticulously researched blog “Swungover.” His long running series on the Harvest Moon Ball competitions is fantastic.

Bobby has started a new series on classic air steps, where he plans to “go through the core repertoire of airs steps handed down by the Lindy Hop pioneers of the 1930s through 1980s, from both our Harlem and SoCal elders.” Check out his first entry: “Ace in the Hole” — a move that you may have mistakenly called the “candlestick” or the “Flying Dutchman.” If you need a reminder, this is the “Ace in the Hole.”

Bobby writes:

...Frankie called this step Ace-in-the-hole. In Frankie’s autobiography, he describes it as one of the earliest Air Steps he did, explaining that Naomi Waller and he did it at a Cotton Club performance in 1936. “Which was one of my favorites because she would get up there and kick her legs wildly.

Bobby shares lots more about this classic air step. We’re excited to read what he covers next!
